Sextasy, Quickie Lickie and Wacky Wahoo   1 comment

Thursday’s big adventure was parasailing for Burl.  We have both tried it before – me in Key West from a boat and Burl in Acapulco starting on the beach.  I loved it but wasn’t too enthralled with just going out a bit in the ocean and going up and down in front of the beach – so Burl decided to give it a whirl and I got to go along on the boat to watch.  They assured him he’d be up for 10-12 minutes so we were both disappointed when we reviewed the photos and saw he was only 6 minutes from take-off to landing.  :-(

But he had a fun time while it lasted and that’s what was really important – and I loved that he was sailing under a canopy of red, white and blue.  Trust me, they know how to lure the American $ from our hands to theirs.  Too bad they didn’t give Burl his full time – cost those guys their tip.

For dinner we tried Wacky Wahoo which was new for Sally and Bob.  I’d read about it online and it got great reviews and then Sally talked to someone who had eaten there so we figured we’d give it a shot.  We weren’t exactly sure where it was because there really aren’t many street signs or addresses in Aruba – but after a quick taxi ride there, we knew we would have a leisurely walk home.

We pulled up in front of the restaurant and while Sally and I were looking at a tiny, charming restaurant, the boys were getting a kick out of the business located next door to Wacky Wahoo – Sextasy!

Wacky Wahoo turned out to be one of our very favorite places during the trip and naturally I had to try to wahoo which they assured me had been caught fresh that morning.  It was served with a skewer of grilled tiger shrimp over spinach fettucine, accompanied by Aruban cornbread and veggies – and I paired it with Balashi beer which is Aruba’s local product and was quite tasty.

Our service was fantastic and we’d definitely recommend the place.  The walk home took us past what had become a new favorite for Sally and me – the Quickie Lickie Laundromat.  Not that we were stopping in there to do our laundry – we just got such a kick out of the name.  In fact, the first time we saw it, we both got the giggles that lasted for over 15 minutes – as soon as one of us would slack off laughing, the other would start up again.  Trust me – it was one of those “you had to be there” events.

Which just goes to show you can take us out of our teens but we still resort to teen-age behavior very quickly – the true mark of great friends.

We stopped for ice cream on our walk home and then Bob left for the casino, Burl watched some TV and Sally and I continued our week-long “do you remember?” adventures.  Next time we’re definitely taking along one of our old yearbooks!

Friday morning was golf again for the guys – this time at the Divi golf course close to our hotel.  Sally and I went on a hunt for a ceramic windmill magnet at the other Marriott properties (we scored!) and then headed back to our lounge chairs for more reading interspersed with the Lazy River and the ocean.

One of Bob and Sally’s favorite Aruba adventures is a sunset cruise on a catamaran which we did Friday evening.  It was a perfect time to be out on the water and we sipped our pina coladas and Aruba Ariba’s while lounging on the deck and visiting with other passengers – most of whom were honeymooners!

It was light when we left at 5:30 but sunset comes early in Aruba (around 6:30) so dark when we returned a couple of hours later.

We got off the catamaran and danced a bit to a band playing on the dock, then walked “home” on the beach.  We had plenty of food – and drink – in the condo so figured it was a great evening to just sit and snack which we did.

An early night for all except Bob who wandered next door to the casino once again!
