Okay, let me state for the record that I’m officially over winter. I realize it’s only been with us a few weeks but it has shown no signs of Al Gore’s global warming and I’m tired of single digit temps, snow on the ground and having to wear a coat. Enough is enough! Guess I’ve gotten spoiled over the last few years with mild winters (exception: 2007 Ice Storm) but I’m ready for something warmer. Fortunately the weather gods are predicting temps in the 40′s by mid-week and Burl is ready to either be back on the golf course or the motorcycle by then.
As if cold weather wasn’t bad enough, I was sick for about 24 hours this weekend. Have no idea what I had but got to feeling yucky on Friday night and knew it was potentially fatal on Saturday when I wasn’t hungry, didn’t want to go to the gym and spent all afternoon napping on the couch. I had NO energy at all. I rarely get sick so am a lousy patient – you can pretty much leave me alone until I feel better although Burl was attentive without being obnoxious. He even brought my fresh flowers and kept ice water on the coffee table for me – and fixed his own dinner last night.
By this morning I felt so much better but still not super hungry so I ate light today and did a really short workout at the gym. Felt good just to be out of the house and especially since it was practically balmy outside.
I even got ambitious and tried a new recipe in the crockpot – I’m trying to clear out the freezer before we leave for a couple of months so chicken with veggies sounded good – and foolproof! We left around 4 to go see “It’s Complicated” (decent romantic comedy) and when we returned, the house smelled quite yummy. Too bad the final product didn’t live up to the aroma it had created. I thought it was terrible – chicken was dry even though I added more liquid than the recipe called for and I gave it a big fat F! Burl agreed it wasn’t that great but still ate two helpings – guess he was hungry.
Years ago I tried a recipe called Mexican Chicken – a good friend gave it to me and it really sounded good. Turns out even the dog (our bassett hound) wouldn’t eat it! My MIL took the leftovers and transformed it into something edible but for decades, Mexican Chicken has stood alone as “The Worst Meal I Ever Cooked”. I think today’s offering gave it a run for its money!
Tonight I’m playing travel agent again – we finally have a body count for our ski trip in February. That’s the trip where 75% of the participants will actually spend time on the slopes – 2 y/o Devin and I shall insure our limbs stay intact and do our own thing off the slopes!
Back to letting my fingers do the walking………and spending!
Wow, that recipe had to be pretty bad to beat Mexican Chicken. I think I barfed four times that night after eating it.
