Whew! We made it – Women of Substance for July. When I thought we were going to be gone until early August it looked like we’d have to skip July and meet twice next month but luckily I got back and Vickie and Robin were free tonight. When I told Burl we were going out he said “but you just got back – and you all are getting together already?” – he obviously doesn’t get how important this group is!!!
Since I know the suspense is killing you, here are our scintillating tidbits of mis-information for July!
- Vickie loved the book “Angry Housewives Eating Bon-Bons” that I loaned to her – she even made a cheat sheet of the main characters and the book has now been passed on to Robin.
- According to Vickie, one female banker in Springfield is trying to create the same look as another banker – it’s blond vs. brunette.
- Bambino’s had a stray cat lurking around our table and I just had to pick it up, much to Robin’s dismay about fleas, etc. When I went to wash my hands I ended up using the men’s restroom since it was vacant.
- Robin and Jim returned their Temper-Pedic mattress just days before the 90-day expiration – and they got a full refund.
- Robin and Jim have bought tickets for 2 weeks in New Zealand over Christmas – the flight will be 12 hours from L.A. to Auckland. She’s not taking her laptop but will probably take the new iPhone she’s getting in a couple of months.
- Even though my car – and our beater truck – qualify as Cash for Clunkers, we’re hanging on to them. I question that all cars that are cashed in have to be crushed – seems like a waste. And the local dealers who are selling the most cars are selling Honda, Toyota, Nissan and Hyundai – probably not what Obama had in mind but obviously what the consumers want.
- We all are concerned about the proposed changes in the healthcare system – and think ancillary services will be impacted severely.
- What’s with the changes in the CoxHealth smoking policy? And can they really make the policy stick?
- I’m going back to work at Cox – but as a volunteer. Meeting with Guest Services and friend Rita next week to discuss my options.
- Vickie survived 5 days of church camp with 5 hour of sleep each night – thanks to a dorm full of teen-age girls. But she loved that she got to know them so well.
- Vickie is seriously considering getting a tattoo on the arch of her foot. One of her favorite songs is “It Is Well With My Soul” (one of mine too) and she wants to put “It Is Well…” since it’s near her sole/soul. We figure God has a sense of humor. But first she has to talk Chas into letting her do it. Hannah wants one too but will have to wait until she’s an adult. When Vickie gets her tattoo, Robin and I are going along to watch.
- I got a bandana that says ‘Biker Bitch” on it – haven’t worn it yet.
- Vickie still hasn’t made a decision on the Gardasil shot for Hannah.
- Robin had a bad customer service experience with her mammogram recently – had a long wait for the digital mammo machine and wishes they had told her there was a delay – she could have stayed at work for another hour.
- Vickie has her first follow-up mammogram next month.
- None of us have seen Food, Inc. but I referred them to Tammy’s blog to read all about it. I hope it stays at the Moxie long enough for me to see it.
- Robin’s dog, Robey, jumped their 4′ fence from a standing position. Now they are trying to figure out how to contain him since they don’t want to chain him or crate him during the day.
- We all agree that Springfield has an old-boys network running the show with no accountability – and way too political.
- Robin read recently that Gen X-ers are like sharks – they have to keep moving or they think they will die. She thinks that defines her but Vickie says she doesn’t fit that mold – she feels more like a Boomer.
- Hannah is getting a Coach bag from China – one of Vickie’s friends is going there on a trip and will bring it back to her. All the kids want the bags with the intertwined “C” on it.
- Hannah starts Kickapoo in a few weeks – she wants to do choir and ping pong.
- Vickie and Chas quit the News-Leader but she gets it for free on Sunday when she fills up at Git ‘n Go.
- Next month we’re going to deviate from our Italian year and dine at Metro Grill as part of the 417 Dining Week – a 3-course meal for 2 is $41.70 ($20.85 for each additional person) – I’ll be getting the flash fried spinach for my appetizer!
- And finally, Vickie surprised us with little treats tonight – pink and white mini-spatulas from Pampered Chef to Help Whip Cancer – aren’t they cute?

Vickie and Robin Help Whip Cancer
Hope this doesn”t mean we actually have to cook!
That’s all folks – until next month!
You are both such a blessing to me! I smile just remembering last night… the loud rain on the roof… the laughs… hearing about Anne’s trip and Robin’s moment of clarity. Can’t wait until next month.
