Days 20 & 21 – July 24 & 25 – Priceless!   2 comments

We are home!  The last couple of days have been marathon driving with almost 650 miles yesterday and 375 today.  But once we get in the mindset to get home, there’s no stopping my driver.  We lucked out yesterday because by time we stopped for lunch in western Nebraska, the temp was already 100 so while Burl napped in the shade, I found a spot with a breeze and knitted.

Back on the bike we welcomed some cloud cover that dropped the temp by 10 degrees and later provided a few brief showers to help cut the inferno.  Without that relief there’s no way we could have covered the ground we did.  We stayed in Lincoln, NE last night and were on the road by 8:30 this morning so I estimated our ETA at 4:00 p.m.  I was off by 2 minutes.

We pulled into our drive and of course Mulligan was overjoyed to see us.  I was elated that he came to me first but he kept bounding between us as if he couldn’t get enough of our hugs.  I took him for a walk earlier and when we went to dinner (concretes from Andy’s – real nutritious meal, huh?) he jumped in the truck with us.

We’ve already unpacked, sorted the mail (90% went to the recycle bin), done 4 loads of laundry and picked up fresh fruit and stuff for breakfast tomorrow.  Our own bed is going to feel mighty damned good tonight.

To recap:

Miles Traveled: 7600+

# of Different Hotel Rooms:  17

National Parks Seen:  7 in U.S., 2 in Canada

Books Read:  14 (plus 3 I started and pitched)

Cost of Trip:  Who cares?

Being Home and Seeing Mulligan:  PRICELESS!!!

  1. Sounds like it was an awesome trip, but as they say “There’s no place like home!”. Glad you are back safe and sound; I’m sure Mulligan was overjoyed to see you!

  2. Burl & Ann:

Nancy and I just enjoyed your entire trip. My gosh, what a trip of a lifetime. We are so happy that you all are living life the way it should be lived. We too can’t wait until the day and plan to take your advise about early retirement. Congrats!
