Day 19 – 7/23/09 – Three Meals, Three States

Today was breakfast in Burley, Wyoming – lunch in Park City, Utah – and dinner in Rawlins, Wyoming!  Good thing we didn’t go for Taco Bell’s 4th Meal or we couldn’t have stopped for the night!

We knew we’d be going near Salt Lake City and Burl offered to show me his favorite ski haunt which is Park City.  He knows I’m not a big fan of city tours when we’re on the motorcycle so I was happy to see where he loves to hang out and ski every winter.

He has never been to Park City when there’s not snow on the ground so this was an entirely new experience for him.  I suggested we have lunch at a place that held good memories for him so we dined at Wasatch Brew Pub where he and Stacey always eat.  I had a buffalo burger (only 20% of the fat and half the calories of ground beef – they know how to sell me!) and we sat on the patio facing the street.

After lunch we strolled around the downtown area and I spotted this great sculpture.  I inquired in several places as to who is the artist but couldn’t find an answer.  Sure looks like something Springfieldian Russ RuBert might have designed.  I’ve sent him a photo to find out.

The rest of the day was spent driving across the lower part of Wyoming which was less than interesting terrain.  The heat was broken with a 5-minute light shower that actually cooled us off and was over way too soon for our liking.

I did read a phenomenal book today – “The Butterfly Garden” by Chip St. Clair.  It is the true story of his childhood and was a fascinating true crime story (yes, Tammy, I saved it for you).  More food for thought on how we never realize what others have had to deal with in their lives and what demons may haunt them and influence their actions.

I did pick up another book today at a book exchange at an Idaho tourist stop so it looks like I have sufficient reading material for our last 1000 miles.
