Our erratic Internet connection yesterday meant I couldn’t post photos so here are a few from our brief Alaskan adventure.
July 16th - turning onto the Cassiar Highway to Stewart and Hyder
There are only a few well paved routes in this part of the world so at this intersection we turned north from the Yellowhead Highway (#16) onto the Cassiar Highway (#37) which goes north – to Alaska! Wasn’t that a John Wayne movie?
And here we are - driving into Hyder!
We were surprised to find that the pavement ended at the US/Canadian border. Won’t Sarah give Hyder the funds for asphalt? They didn’t need to worry about us exceeding the speed limit either.

This bar is legendary in Hyder – but since we never drink and drive, we couldn’t get “Hyderized” – the 2-mile walk back to our hotel was a bit much plus we had to pass Canadian customs along the way.

Hard to believe we were at sea level here with this gorgeous view of a glacier from our hotel room.
Tonight we’re enjoying a beer in our room and watching Lance on the re-run of today’s Tour de France. Burl is already bumming that he’ll miss watching the British Open over the weekend – especially with Tiger out and Missouri’s own Tom Watson in contention for the win.
