Ace In The Hole   Leave a comment

Burl returned from “work” yesterday afternoon with a semi-disgruntled look on his face.  I asked my normal “how was work today” question and he responded that he’d played one of his worst rounds ever.  He then revealed that out of 18 holes, he shot over par on 17 of them.

Now Burl is not a scratch golfer and definitely has a double-digit handicap but 17 out of 18 holes without par is also above average for him and in that department he wants to be below average.

However, the hole where he did break par turned out to be his second career Hole In One!

Almost 5 years after he aced the #5 hole at our club, he repeated this accomplishment – same hole, same club but this time the distance was about 10 yards longer due to the pin placement.

He was playing with two of his favorite golf buddies which made it even sweeter.

We played couples golf last evening and I had planned to take a photo of him next to the sign for #5 but forgot to do it.  By time we got to #5 we were too busy having fun visiting with our friends Becky and Clarence who were playing with us.  Our score was heading north of par by then and I was having to constantly remind Burl that we were playing for FUN – we weren’t in contention for a major championship.

He groused for the last few holes that we’d probably be DFL and I feared that our 43 would prove him right but when he turned in our score, he discovered couples who had 44 and 46 posted.  Whew!  Dodged the bullet on that one.

Since I wasn’t a tremendous help in keeping our score low last evening it looks like some golf practice is in the works for me.  If we get our yard work done today, we’ll play 9 holes of scramble late this afternoon.

Now it’s time to enjoy a sunny day, warm weather and a yard that needs some TLC.
