Ever since Burl bought a John Deere last fall, he’s been excited about mowing this spring. He’s now “one of the guys” in our hood as he tools around on his bright green and yellow toy and our yard always looks freshly mowed.
One of his buddies was moving and had some accessories to sell so we are not the proud owners of a small utility trailer and a snow plow for his Deere. The snow plow should insure we never again have measurable snow – in fact, I don’t think we’ve had any for 4-5 years! Doesn’t matter – we are prepared!
In the meantime, he entertained our granddaughters today by putting a lawn chair in the trailer and riding around the yard.
Since Bella is only 3 she thought this mode of travel was great fun. I dubbed it the Redneck Limo!
My kids and Burl insured I had a wonderful Mother’s Day. Cindy and the girls met us for church and then we came home and Burl fixed brunch for us all – pecan waffles, stuffed French toast, fresh strawberries and champagne! That guy really knows how to spoil me.
The stuffed French toast was something new – apparently he caught the tail end of a cooking show on TV last week and decided it sounded good. And it was! He even used lowfat cream cheese which he mixed with pecans and mashed bananas for the filling.
While Bella took a nap, Cindy helped me plant planted three hibiscus trees and a ton of flowers for me. One of the trees was a Mother’s Day gift from her and Burl bought me the others – they go in pots near the pool and Cindy surrounded them with flowers and also filled my bicycle planters. I’d like to think I helped but with my black thumb, I was really just along for the entertainment!
Tarah is trying to raise money for a cheerleading trip this summer so she turned the drive into a car wash and I now have a beautiful hand-washed Honda. Naturally it rained later in the day – the flowers got watered and the car was back in the garage to stay clean.
I got to talk to all my kids today and when Ralph is in town this week, she and Tammy along with Julia and Lydia are going to take me to lunch for a late celebration. Since I love to spread the fun, I never mind extended festivities.
Here’s a Happy Mother’s Day shoutout to all my family and friends who are mothers – or have ever had a mother – or can spell the word “mother”.
I miss my mother every day and would love to have the opportunity to tell her how right she was about almost everything!
