President Obama loves us – or wants our vote in 2012 – or both. This week we received notice that in about a month we will each receive $250 as part of the economic recovery bill.
Why?
Because we receive Social Security benefits.
It’s not because we need the money or have an obligation to spend it or we’re jobless – it’s just a nice thing that Congress and our president decided to do for Social Security and SSI recipients.
I’d like to think that if our bureaucrats in Washington were giving away their own money – not the hard-earned money from taxpayers – that they would be a little more prudent with their give-away.
How about only giving it to SS and SSI recipients under a certain income threshold? Or those over a certain age? Or people who are struggling financially?
Nope – the money is being borrowed from several generations in the future so we can get it, tuck it in the bank and probably leave it to our kids in what I hope is a very long time from now. We won’t go out and blow $500 on something we want because if we want it bad enough now, we’ll get it anyway.
