Picking out paint colors is certainly not my long suit. For one thing, I cannot visualize how the color will look on the walls and then there’s the issue of how the color will go with the rest of the house if/when we ever get around to painting all the wall.
I finally narrowed the color choice in the bathroom to gray knowing that I’d use the same color in the hallway so that alleviated one challenge. But there was still that issue of how a color sample would actually look on the walls despite Home Depot offering several lighting options for color comparison.
I realize I could have bought a small amount of paint and tried it on the walls but that makes too much sense – I prefer to live on the edge so I resorted to luck!
My creative side really wanted to choose the color based on their names – I liked Billowy Down, Full Moon, Quietude and White on White. I was lukewarm on Tears of Joy but alas, that was the color that came closest to what my predominantly left brain had in mind.
It’s hard to tell from this photo, especially since the vanity lights are missing and the recessed lights are hanging down, but the color is EXACTLY what I wanted!
When I opened the paint can I would have sworn it was white and they forgot to add any color but once on the walls, it is perfect. It’s a silvery gray with no brown or yellow undertones (do I sound like I know my colors or what?) and the second coat makes it look even better.
As soon as I paint the baseboard under the cabinets, I’ll be ready for Mr. Tile Layer to magically appear and install the tile flooring.
I’ve concluded that Tears of Joy is a very appropriate name for the bathroom because that’s what I’ll be shedding when this whole project is finished.
Wow, it really looks great. It’s so clean!
