Bathtub Begone!   Leave a comment

img_0026This morning I said a very un-tearful good riddance to this ugly bathtub and shower.  Having lived with it for 7 years, I can attest to the fact that I can do anything for the short haul – I just didn’t think it would be 7 long years but hey, when you sleep with your handyman you learn that things get done on his time schedule and that means working around tee times and motorcycle rides!

We picked out the new tub/shower combo yesterday along with the faucets and a new commode so this morning he announced that since it’s Ladie’s Day at our golf club, he’d start the project.  I left!

img_0028When I returned from a great workout and a long, leisurely lunch with good friend, Phyllis, here’s how the bathroom looked.  I was pleasantly surprised that when he removed the butt-ugly tile and sheet rock (installed last year for a “temporary” fix) there was not a huge colony of black mold to be found – in fact, no mold at all!

I fixed him a nice hot lunch of soup from a can, warmed in the microwave, as he pondered how the hell he was going to get the tub out without cutting into a hallway wall.  I put my money on him vs. the wall and sure ‘nuf, he figured it out.

img_0029Now a few hours later, the old tub is loaded in the trailer and ready to go to the Habitat for Humanity ReStore (a great place for home improvement stuff and general bargains!) and I’ll soon be able to perform my designated task – running the shop vac.  Fine with me – that’s about the extent of my expertise on this project until the fixtures are in and all that’s left to do is paint the walls and the cabinets.

For now I’ll just try to keep my own personal handyman happy with cold lemonade and microwave popcorn.img_0030
