Daughters Make Nice Pets   1 comment

Many years ago, my mom gave me a refrigerator magnet that said “Daughters Make Nice Pets.”  She was blessed with two daughters and so was I – until I married Burl and was triple blessed with Cindy, Stacey and Annie.  I probably need to pass along the magnet to Ralph now since she has also been blessed with two daughters – the family tradition continues.

Today I got to spend a few hours of quality time with Tammy which for us is a rare occasion.  She works outside the home a few days a week and most other days she’s busy in her studio so even though we live fairly close to each other, we don’t get together as much as we’d like.

I had a coupon for a free pizza at Emack and Bolio’s so that was our first stop – we shared a 5-cheese pizza to which we added chicken and mushrooms and also shared a salad.  Their lunch was quite yummy and we’ll definitely eat there again – even without a coupon.

We were headed for the mall to do a couple of returns but stopped first at Talbot’s where Tammy talked me into a cool tunic.  She is definitely the shopping diva of our family – if you don’t believe me, check out her blog entry for yesterday for seasonal tips.  Forget about spending money on a fashion magazine – I just check with my kid and she is always ready to give me her opinion – or facial expression – about my selections!

The mall didn’t yield much in the way of shopping for us – I picked up a few stocking stuffers at Banana Republic (never too early to shop for Christmas), got a pair of free undies at Vicky’s Secret and scored OPI nail polish at 75% off at Trade Secret.  Yes, we were the last of the big-time spenders.

Our last stop was at She’s Crafty where Tammy wanted to pick out fabric for a tote bag.  She didn’t find exactly what she wanted but did find some killer fabric for a duvet so will return tomorrow when she knows how much material to buy – but I did appreciate her eye in choosing buttons for the February Lady Sweater that I’m knitting.

I’m home now and was anticipating a long quiet evening of sewing and knitting while Burl’s at the Shrine Circus.  However, he’s only working one shift and will be home soon so it looks like it’s Friday Night Date Night after all.  The kitchen is closed – the cook’s off duty!

Thanks again, Tammy, for a fun afternoon – and for not giving a one-finger salute to all the people who told you we look alike.  We really don’t – I have lots more wrinkles than you do!

  1. I had fun too. Thanks for treating me to lunch. You really are nicer than Becky’s mom.

Btw, I wasn’t the one giving the one-fingered salute. I believe you were doing that to me! Where did you learn your manners!
