Our bags are packed and soon we will leave for the airport to fly home. We started our last evening here with mango margaritas poolside for Happy Hour. It was so fun to meet a group of Rotarians from Long Beach, CA who had been participating in Project Amigo literacy project in the mountains of Mexico earlier in the week. We’d love to visit their club since they meet on the Queen Mary every Wednesday at noon.
Then we hopped on the local bus and went to Guadalajara where we took a carriage ride around the city. We toured for an hour and got to see the university and some of the mansions as well as go through the part that has all the bridal shops and couture clothing.
After the ride we just walked around the downtown area looking for a restaurant – finally decided on one called La Chata that was definitely authentic Mexican food with no English on the menus. Fortunately we’ve learned enough to order and Tequila Sunrise seems to be a universal drink. We caught a late bus home and got off at Springfield Plaza so we could take one last stroll through downtown Tlaquepaque and hear the concert in the Jardin Hidalgo.
This morning we got packed, ate breakfast and walked to the gallery of Rocco Padillo where Burl bought me a sculpture I’ve been eyeing. It has a Mexican guy riding a bicycle while his wife hangs off the back holding his golf clubs – quite fitting for us I think! I just don’t want Burl to get any ideas that I plan to ride behind him and carry his clubs on a regular basis!
Now it’s time to load the van and leave for the airport. We plan to return to Tlaquepaque so need to find the Spanish phrase for “see you again” instead of saying “good-by”.
But for now, it’s Adios Amigos!
