Greetings from Tlaquepaque Mexico where we are happily settled at the Hotel Don Jose Quinta in a room that is just a couple of steps from the pool.  Have to be careful of too many margaritas from Charlie the bartender or we’ll be swimming unexpectedly!

We left 10 degree weather in Springfield this morning and are certain that the temps here were close to 90.  Plenty of sunshine and it was nice to lay by the pool and sip a frozen mango margarita feeling a million miles from snow!

So far we have found our bearings in the immediate neighborhood – we know how to find the ATM, the largest cantina in town, the square and Plaza Springfield (yes, it’s named for Springfield, MO).  We also understand Mexican Time where nothing runs on any kind of schedule and siestas are strongly suggested each day.

We’ve met some of the local Rotarians who greeted us at the airport and then joined us again tonight for dinner at the B&B – one gentleman brought his wife and another brought his daughter – so we are getting great opportunities to practice our beginning Spanish.  Fortunately they speak excellent English so conversation was easy during dinner.  They have fun referring to me as “El Presidente” and find it intriguing to have a female Rotary president since they are all-male clubs.

The early morning wake-up call is catching up with us now so time to call it a day.  Breakfast is anytime from 8-11 and then we’ll do a walking tour of the town.  A light day with plenty of pool time!

Buenos Nochos!
