Many teen-agers don’t know the meaning of a written thank-you note – much less how to pick up the phone and say the words or (horrors!) send an email thanks.
But it’s obvious friend Vickie is doing one – of many – things right in raising her daughter, Hannah. One night last week, friend Robin and I took Hannah out for a special dinner at Zio’s. We had a delightful time and Hannah was not only fun to talk with but didn’t make us feel like a couple of dinosaurs – and she was exceedingly polite as well as charming.
When she got home, she told her mom she needed to write us thank-you notes. Observe – her mom didn’t tell her to write the notes, she told her mom she was going to write them. And she did!
Within a couple of days I had a lovely hand-written note expressing her appreciation for the dinner and bringing a huge smile to my face. What a sweetheart! At the ripe young age of not-quite-15 she already knows the value of good manners.
Way to go Vickie – and Hannah – YOU ROCK!
I will forward this to Miss Hannah! Thanks for the compliment… she is my joy!

I will pass this on to Tarah. I will work harder on teaching her better manners. We really do appreciate all you do for us. I’m sorry we don’t show it very well. We love you!!
