The Ice(man) Cometh

We’re in the midst of experiencing our first real winter storm of 08-09.  Icy rain is falling, the roads are slick as you-know-what and memories of  the January 2007  ice storm are vivid since many residents lost power for up to 2 full weeks.  We were lucky – only 74 hours without electricity or water (we use a well that needs electricity to provide the water).  Tammy and Steve had over a week in the dark.

When I had the pesky day job I used to think how neat it would be to stay home on a snow/ice day and just catch up on stuff around the house.  So far today we’ve gotten a head start on that agenda.

We did go to the gym this morning and then stopped at Lowe’s to look at bathtub/shower combos, toilets, faucets and floor tile.  Apparently Burl is ready to move on to the next project – especially since he’s discovered he may not need to remove a wall in order to install the bathtub/shower deal.  We learned the one I want comes in 3 pieces that are then caulked together and best of all, they can go through a normal doorway.

Now the big question is the bathroom counter top.  Currently it’s a beige marble and in an effort to save time and effort for Burl I was willing to live with it – IF I can have a tub and stool that match.  Since the “biscuit” color is going to run about $350 more than white, he tells me if I want a new counter top, go for it – because he knows I’ll choose something that will go with white!

So it’s back to the drawing board – and to Lowe’s – to look at counter tops and sinks.  Decisions.  Decisions.

In the meantime, I’m having fun putting all the “stuff” into my new sewing/craft room.  Since all my yarn, sewing stuff, needlepoint, etc. has been spread out all over the house, I had no idea how MUCH stuff I have.  Yikes!  Right now I’m organizing in baskets but Burl has promised to build a sewing table and some built-ins for me – I just have to decide what I want.  More decisions!

I’ve spent enough time today organizing and cleaning – I’m ready for something fun like cutting out doll dresses.

The public schools are already called off for tomorrow which means I don’t have to attend a 7:30 a.m. board meeting – and I can work out on my bike downstairs – and we have plenty of food and drink.  And firewood in case we lose power – we can blow up the mattress and sleep in front of the fireplace.  We’re set for a day or 2 anyway – and then cabin fever will overtake us!
