Tonight I made my debut at the hockey rink and I am now announcing my retirement after a brief career!
It was Rotary Night at the rink and traditionally, there is a shoot-off between the presidents of the 5 clubs. We each get 2 tries to shoot the puck from mid-court – sounds easy, huh? Well if we could shoot it at the big, wide goal they use in games it would be one thing. But NO – we had to shoot at a wooden board in front of the goal – or more specifically, at a hole about 6″ wide in the board.
None of us made it.
I came close – I did hit the board both times and Burl assured me I didn’t place DFL! Too bad close only counts in horseshoes.
Here are my tips on how I became so successful at hockey:
- First, I went to the rink a couple of nights ago and spent 10 minutes with a youth coach who showed me how to hold the stick and let me hit shots at the wall that was only about 10 feet away. The college team was practicing and I didn’t want to get in their way.
- Second – and more importantly – we went to Happy Hour at Big Whiskey’s where I drank a couple of beers and ate a couple of sliders and some chicken nachos. Yep, I was fueled by alcohol and junk food!
Alcohol – the secret ingredient that’s been helping people make fools of themselves since the beginning of time!
Ha!!! That’s great, I bet you were fabulous… the only thing better is if you had been on ice skates!
