Gotta love craigslist!  I put a bedroom set (dresser, mirror, headboard, mattress and box springs) and also a crappy entertainment center (long story but we never used it – just stored it – got it free) on craigslist yesterday around 1:00 p.m.

By 2:45 p.m. I had cash in hand for the bedroom set and the guy picked it up today.  While we were at the movies, we had several calls about the other item and it went to a good home shortly after noon today.

No hassle – no charge to advertise – what’s not to like!?!

One of the items on Burl’s Christmas list this year was a Belgian Waffle Maker – the kind where you pour in the batter and flip it over to bake.  He loves staying in hotels where their free breakfast offers this entertainment so he was delighted that he got one of his own.

Since we left on our trip the day after he got it, we needed to try it out and today was the perfect day.  Sunday Brunch!  Tammy, Steve and Cindy joined us and we feasted on waffles (plain, pecan and cranberry), sausage, chocolate dipped fresh strawberries and champagne mimosas!  Talk about decadent!

After brunch Cindy asked if we had an old trunk she could use in her new house so we all trooped to the lower level and proceeded to uncover all kinds of treasures.  Cindy now has a cool old trunk in her bedroom along with a gorgeous picture of her mother on her wedding day, a quilt made by her grandmother and lots of other mementos to go through later.

Tammy and Steve left with an arc lamp and called later to say that after a little polish and elbow grease, it looks great and will save them the $450 they were planning to spend on a similar one.

We also found another trunk so I hauled it up to the living room to replace the ugly coffee table and now I’m ready to put that table and an end table on craigslist!  And Cindy (using her proxy from Stacey) authorized us to pitch a box full of Stacey’s swim trophies.

However, the most fun item we found was an old wallet that had belonged to Mike.  We have no idea how old he was when he used it but it contained a photo of his girl friend (with huge 80′s hair) and a Trojan!  Go Mike!

I realize I’m only making a slight dent in the “stuff” we have stored on the lower level but at least it’s progress.

With an empty extra bedroom, I’m ready to start ripping off the ugly wallpaper border and get going on some decorating.   Since I’m creatively challenged I appreciated Tammy and Cindy’s suggestions and their enthusiasm was contagious.

Now I need to take a “before” photo so you’ll be even more impressed when you see the final results!

  1. Thanks again for a great brunch. Even without the parting gift, it still would have been a fun meal.

I love the story of Mike’s wallet! At least we know he was a responsible kid!
