Miss Ellaneous   2 comments

When I was in college, my dear friend and roommate Sally and I used to love to greet friends with a rousing rendition of “Oh There She Is Miss Ellaneous” – sung of course to the famous “Miss America” song!  Naturally we thought we were quite funny and to us, we were.  And of course neither of us were beauty pageant material either!

However, our daughter-in-law Annie is a bona fide beauty queen having been Missouri Missouri in 1994.  She’s a beautiful and talented young lady with a great sense of humor and tells some hilarious stories about the whole beauty pageant experience (she was also Missouri Junior Miss) and her competitors.

Sunday night I was asking her questions about it and she brought out her crown and scepter and insisted I model!  img_0752Here I am being crowned Miss Ellaneous as Annie pins the crown on me (her actual crown from being Miss Missouri) – as you can see I’m quite surprised as the competition was stiff and I wasn’t sure the judges would vote for me.

Fortunately I didn’t have to compete in evening gown – instead I entered the Christmas jammies competition and they waived the talent portion since I didn’t think bicycle riding or knitting would be too thrilling.

And naturally, after I was crowned and received my scepter, I had to do “the walk” for my adoring fans!  img_0753Can’t disappoint my public.  And don’t you think my sheepskin-lined slippers are a nice touch?  They really complete the outfit!

Annie has since given up the beauty queen title to be a mom, wife and part-time ER physician.

And she and I have lots of fun with the fact that we have the same name!

  1. What a great picture of you on your walk! If I were your kids I would frame that one! Welcome home Anne!

  2. You look fabulous! The crown is the perfect touch to the pajama/slipper ensemble. I’ll bet it was actually cool to see the crown and scepter Annie once used.
