Welcome 2009   2 comments

Our friends Ron and Barb joined us last night to ring in 2009.  We all had dinner, played Mexican Train (I won!) and sufficiently tested Stacey’s new frozen margarita machine.  Since the rest of our Golf Gang wasn’t with us to celebrate, we took this fun photo to send to them.  img_0735We posed ourselves to look like we had already had way too much tequila but we all stayed sober last night.  In fact, Burl and I barely managed to stay up until midnight and were sound asleep by about 12:15!

Today Burl, Len and Ron played golf and Stacey, Alex and I took a long walk on the beach.  It was a bit chilly but we got a kick out of all the kids who were romping in the water while the adults were wrapped in blankets, sitting on the sand in the sun watching them!

My mother-in-law used to say you should always eat black-eyed peas on New Year’s Day to insure good luck for the year.  She also swore by the fact that whatever you did on the first day of the year was foretelling of the year ahead.  I’m passing on the peas but hope that walking on the beach – or being active – can be my mantra for 2009.

Obviously living 1700 miles inland will affect my beach time!

  1. Happy New Year, Anne! My family believes in the black-eyed peas superstition as well, so I cooked up a pot of them today for Jim and I to enjoy for dinner. They are actually not too bad when you include enough bacon to flavor them. We also believe that what you do on the first day of the year fortells what you will do all year, so we always try not to spend any money on Jan. 1st. We accomplished that today! We have spent our whole day painting our new master suite/basement remodel at the lake house. What do you think that means we will be doing all year? I hope its not painting! :-)

  2. Well, we didn’t eat black eyed peas, but we did do some bargain shopping and had happy hour with Sarah and Dennis. All in all, a relaxing day and a good start to 2009.
