December 26th is like a big sigh – all the buildup to Christmas Day is over – the buying, wrapping, sending, baking, partying (well, almost), cleaning, gifting – today is after the fact and it feels pretty darned good. No more “to do” lists looking over my shoulder and I don’t even have to think about going back to work when I get home.
I’m thinking about this time a year ago when I was waiting to hear if I’d been approved, at a reasonable rate, for health insurance so I could make the final decision on retirement. Good thing I didn’t know what the economy would do as I might have gotten cold feet. But Burl brings me down to earth by reminding me that if we don’t have to sell anything, we haven’t lost in the market. I love that man so much!
I got in my usual walk this morning – missing my classes at the gym and a longer workout but at least I’m getting in some cardio which mentally makes me feel much better – and not so sluggish physically.
Mike got out of clinic appointments around noon so Burl and I met him at Arrowhead Mall which obviously was doubling as the Phoenix Zoo! Talk about a bunch of wild animals. Road rage was alive and thriving in the parking lot and the natives were restless inside. Geez!
Burl was getting a cold so Dr. Mike sent him home to sleep and we met the others for a late lunch before the guys all went home and Annie, her mother and I hit a few shops – no more mall. There were lots of sales – and deep discounts – but I had no motivation to buy. I’m not a favorite of the retailers these days.
Tonight we’ll stay in and probably watch a movie – a good night for just hanging out and being entertained by Devin. Grandparents are such pushovers.
