When we travel to Phoenix via motorcycle, we always stop at our favorite rest stop right inside the Arizona state line on I-40. If the timing is right, we stop and have a picnic lunch and Burl will then nap on a picnic table while I hike. Such was not the plan today – here’s a photo to show why!
The temps at that time were hovering around freezing which actually felt pretty mild to us. As we continued west to Flagstaff we did run into some snow showers and at Flag we saw about a foot of snow on the ground.
Driving south on I-17 out of Flag the sun came out and all we could see was a black ribbon on highway slicing through all the snow. The snow-covered evergreens were absolutely beautiful – a true winter wonderland.
By time we were near the turnoff to Sedona the snow was long gone and we were treated to views of the red rock canyons to the west.
Burl has visions of driving to Flag to ski this weekend and my goal is to hike and shop in Sedona – maybe we can do both.
