Road Trip Planning   Leave a comment

We leave early Monday morning on our longest road trip yet without the motorcycle – Phoenix for Christmas, San Diego for New Year’s.  Naturally a trip of 4000+ miles requires a lot of planning.  Burl got the tires rotated on the truck, built a platform for the laptop for me to use while he’s driving and has generally been in charge of all the automotive-related items.

My planning involves my amusement while traveling – specifically reading and knitting!

In the knitting department I’m taking along an in-process deconstructed jacket that I haven’t touched for over 2 months since I started and finished other items along with yarn for a wedding gift I plan to make.

For reading, I have the January 2009 issues of Oprah, Good Housekeeping, Allure and The Rotarian.  But where I have really scored is in the book department!  Several items I had on reserve at the library were available today so here’s my list:

  • “American Wife” by Curtis Sittenfeld – supposed to be based on the life of Laura Bush and if it’s half as good as “Prep” I know I’ll like it.
  • “Divorced From The Mob”  by Andrea Giovino – subtitled “My Journey From Organized Crime to Independent Woman” – true story – looks fascinating
  • “Testimony” by Anita Shreve – the latest offering from one of my favorite authors
  • “Confessions of a Mafia Contract Killer “by Philip Carlo – based on the life of Richard “the Ice Man” Kuklinski who claims to have killed over 200 men.   Written by the author of “Gaspipe”.  Another true story.
  • “Bikini Season” by Sheila Roberts – because every vacation needs some fluff reading and a friend said this one was entertaining without being totally stupid.

I’m betting this vacation doesn’t last long enough for me to digest all these goodies but I’ll give it one hell of a try.

Now to try to decipher the weather for the next couple of weeks – looks like jeans, sweaters and leather jacket weather to me.
