Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich is the the latest in a long string of high-profile people who seem to feel entitled to act with reckless abandon and then claim they have done nothing wrong. Give. Me. A. Break.
Bill Clinton, John Edwards, Jesse Jackson – the list could go on and on and while the Illinois gov has allegedly crossed the line to illegal actions, other politicians, actors and notables seem to feel entitled to personal behavior that questions the sanctity of their marriages or their respect for friends and family. How stupid do they think people are?
Back in my day……you knew that was coming, right?……..there was an unwritten code of ethics that I was expected to follow (the written version was on a tablet that Moses received). It only took a certain look from my father or the words “Annie, you know better than that” to bring me back into line. My moral code began as a child, at home, and was reinforced in the classroom, at church and among my friends.
Of course I’ve screwed up plenty of times in my life – BUT I was taught to own up to my mistakes, admit them, ask for forgiveness, learn from them and move on. Personal responsibility. What a novel idea. However, that was before it became chic to call out the big-dog lawyers and just claim innocence, sue the accuser and tie up the court system unnecessarily.
Okay, enough of my Old Fart ramblings for a Wednesday morning – I need to finish my Christmas cards, weigh in at Weight Watchers, go to the gym and finish the only hand-made Christmas gift I’m giving this year.
And for the record – I didn’t do it…..I’m totally innocent…..somebody else is to blame…..don’t look at me…..you don’t understand…..I was mis-quoted…..
