Six months ago when I upgraded to Life 2.0 we considered buying a laptop thinking we would use it when we travel. Since my blackberry had been employer-furnished I had to get a cell phone so in the end we opted for me to get an iPhone and we passed on the laptop.
Then a few weeks ago, Burl and Steve were out running errands and ended up at a computer store – the same store where today we returned and bought ourselves a laptop! We’re calling it our Christmas gift to each other because truthfully there’s not a darned thing we need and if we want something really bad, we buy it (i.e. I’m looking at new sewing machines and will probably buy one next week when the Bernina store gets in the model I want).
We got a Dell and came home tonight to hook up the wireless router for our desktop and discovered that although we have the original box, we somehow can’t find the install CD or any instructions. I did a download from the Internet and have it partially configured with the laptop but am clearly missing something.
But – we really don’t need to use it at home right now so tomorrow we’ll take it some place where there’s wi-fi and give it a test drive to make sure the wireless works in preparation for our Christmas trip out west.
Burl has visions of watching movies on a screen that’s much larger than our portable DVD player – and I have visions of downloading photos and blogging from it.
New fun and games for the Old Farts!
