I haven’t yet started playing Christmas music but when I do, the #1 favorite will be the Kingston Trio’s album titled “The Last Month of the Year.” That’s the very first Christmas album (that’s vinyl for you youngsters!) that the Starter Hubby and I bought and I’m betting Tammy still has the original. We were huge Kingston Trio fans at the start of college but he quickly introduced me to Bob Dylan and then The Rolling Stones who are still my very favorite group EVER!
Anyway – it is now December and even though it’s cold and we’ve had a dusting of snow, I can’t quite get my arms around the fact that it’s the Christmas season. I’ve done my share of cyber-shopping so far but have yet to haul out the gift wrap and start that dreaded job – probably because I’m not artistic and I never think my packages look creative and gorgeous and besides I have to match paper to ribbon and that requires right brain talents. It’s more fun to use that right brain for knitting.
I also won’t be decorating the house this year. We are leaving a few days before Christmas to enjoy balmy Phoenix for several days and then heading to San Diego for New Year’s. The sum total of the decorations will be the live wreath on the front door. My feeling is if I don’t put it up, I don’t have to un-decorate when we return the first week of January. Lazy? You bet – and getting lazier every day I think!
Sunday night we enjoyed a bowl of yummy chili at Tammy and Steve’s – they followed Burl’s recipe (note to Ed – you’re correct, there is no chili powder – don’t need it) and I thought it turned out fabulous. They had spent Sunday decorating their new home which is always a challenge when you have no idea where to put what – but they opted for tastefully elegant and I think it looks awesome. I can stop by there and get my dose of decorations until we leave.
Yesterday Burl and I played an hour of racquetball proving that we can actually play a competitive sport and still be friends. We didn’t keep score but I know he would have won – even though he hasn’t played for years, he was quite agile on the court and remembered all his shots from when he played on his college tennis team a few years ago. I played again today with my friend Ann and once again she beat me but this time it took her longer to win so I figure I’m improving! She’s either a saint, loves to win or enjoys playing with me because she wants to play again next Tuesday and we’ve already set a time. Between now and then I’ll make sure I get some court time to practice by myself – although Burl is already asking when we can play again!
My project this afternoon has been to clean out my closets and get stuff ready for sale on eBay. Tammy has a friend who runs an eBay business so I’m going to take a bunch of professional shoes and clothing to her tomorrow. BTW – don’t buy stock in Talbot’s – since I retired I rarely darken their door!!!
Now I just have to figure out how to spend all my “found” $ from purging my closets!
