Raising a Racquet   Leave a comment

A few days ago I saw our good friends Ann and Norb at the gym.  They were heading to the racquetball court to play a few games – Ann was brimming with enthusiasm and Norb was reluctantly tagging along – probably figuring it was easier to give in and play with her than argue!

I haven’t played this game for 20+ years but at Ann’s invitation, I joined her this morning for an hour of ass-whooping (she beat me 5 games 15-0, 15-5, 15-2, 15-3, 15-4) and tons of fun.  Since I have no equipment she gladly shared a racquet and balls and gave me plenty of pointers during our warm up time.  I shared with her that 35 minutes of racquetball = 4 activity points on Weight Watchers.  We were both happy campers!

An hour later I was soaked in sweat, gasping for breath and reveling in the fun we had just experienced.  I plan to get my own racquet and balls soon and reserve some court time at the gym to practice and Ann and I will be back on the court again when we can get our schedules to mesh between all our activities.  (Note to my kids – she makes me look like a slug with all her “stuff”).

Burl has even agreed to start playing with me – his game of choice would be tennis but since it’s a bit chilly for that now, he said he’ll play racquetball.  I think tomorrow I’ll go buy equipment and surprise him with a little Thanksgiving gift.

I’ve been so busy sewing 3 little Christmas dresses – plus spinning class, body building class, racquetball, etc. – that the house is certainly not in company-ready condition.  So tomorrow I’m treating myself to a house cleaner for several hours – figure she can do the kitchen and bathrooms which are pretty far down on my “love to do” list plus dust and vacuum leaving me time to go to the gym and get my hair cut and colored.

The good news is, the house will be cleaner than it’s been since I left that pesky day job.  The bad news is, I now have to go straighten up the danged place so she can clean it!  The sooner I start, the sooner I can get back to the book I’m reading – “The Gate House” by Nelson deMille.  It’s fabulous!
