Hey Spooks – Happy Halloween. We had hoped to treat ourselves to a round of golf at Murder Rock today but Mother Nature played a trick on us and we were rained out. Our friends Jim and Kathie picked us up about 9 and we were all looking forward to a great day on the links. When we got to the club house, a valet quickly loaded our clubs into a cart and provided range balls so we could go to the driving range while we waited for our tee time. Fancy schmancy!
About 11 we were sitting on the porch of the club house when it started to rain – and soon the marshals pulled all the carts off the course and asked if we would like to have our carts driven to the cart barn so they remained dry. We knew we were in for a delay so we headed for the grill and had lunch while the rain came down….and down…and down (yes, I know – rain doesn’t come “up”) – it was raining so hard we could hardly see across the valley so we made the executive decision to scratch our play today and re-schedule for next Tuesday. Fortunately we were playing on a gift certificate I purchased at a charity auction last fall so we still have time to use it prior to the expiration date.
Of course by time we got to Springfield there were blue skies to the west but it sure wasn’t as warm as predicted. Burl decided we needed to make a trip to the Habitat for Humanity Re-Store which he visits every week and where he always finds bargains. Today’s treasure was a spool of ribbon about 2.5 feet in diameter and about 3/4″ wide in royal blue – for $3. Now I have no idea what we’ll do with it but he thought it was a great find. I predict I’ll wrap some presents with it, get tired of it, put it in a garage sale and come out ahead by about $2. Now, where do I store the danged thing?
It’s now 7:40 p.m. and even though we’ve had our porch lights on all evening, we’ve had not one ghost or goblin. Burl’s secretly hoping he’ll get to eat the minuscule amount of candy I bought.
