Beautiful fall days – plenty of sunshine, cool mornings, clear night skies – remind me to be thankful for all those simple pleasures of life:
- Finding an open StepClimber at the gym
- Stopping to buy mums and seeing a sign at the greenhouse that says “closed due to weather, leave your money in the locked box”
- Filling my gas tank for $1.97 a gallon – especially after we paid $5.99 a gallon in June when we were in Big Sur
- Having time to visit with friends when I meet them at the gym, the library, while shopping
- Having my older daughter tell me I’m “lots more fun” now that I don’t have that pesky day job stressing me out so much
- Just thinking about seeing my Women of Substance friends next Tuesday at Mexican Villa
- Writing a letter of reference for a protege in her 20′s who’s applying for grad school – while also working full-time and planning her wedding
- Catching Mulligan sleeping in my easy chair when he thinks I’ve left – the look in his eyes was priceless when he found out he was busted! I had no idea he ever got on the furniture – wonder when that started!
Doesn’t he look innocent here? That’s because this photo is 3 years old – taken the day we rescued him from the animal shelter and he was so excited that he scammed us into taking him! Best $50 we ever spent too. - Knowing all the election crap will end in a week – not the aftermath, of course, but all the political ads, letters to the editors, mud-slinging, exorbitant spending, blah, blah, blah. We may actually get 2-3 months of relief before the candidates declare for 2010!
- Having Tammy and Steve live 3 miles closer to us – just the fact that she’s now east of the 65 Bypass makes it seem like they are in our ‘hood
- Remembering to take my grocery bags into Wally World – and knowing I saved at least a dozen plastic sacks with my 4 cloth bags. Still hard to believe $100 of groceries fit into 4 bags – that’s insane!
- Getting our weekly trash down to 1 bag – which means I take more to the recycle center than goes with the trash guys
- Being reminded to schedule my mammogram by friend Nancy’s blog – thanks Nancy
- Eating dinner every Wednesday night at church for $4 each – and the food is quite yummy too – good eats, good friends, fabulous price and I don’t have to cook – such a deal
- Seeing my yarn stash grow – even when I’m knitting more these days. It’s still “too much yarn, too little time” but that’s a good thing!
- Accepting that I don’t have to finish reading every book I start – took me a long time to figure that one out but with all the books on my reading list, there’s no reason to waste time on one that’s mediocre.
- Buying new jeans in a size I haven’t worn for a few years – sure helps that they are 1% spandex
