Sunday….we had a fabulous day starting with church where one of the members of our Praise Band received a surprise marriage proposal while the minister was giving his announcements. It was so sweet and had me in tears – geez, I’m such a romantic!
We got the pool closed for good
and then met our friends Ron and Barb at the golf course for 9 holes. I unwisely chose to wear my golf sandals – fortunately I had a pair of socks in my bag because by time we finished, I was freezing! I must have played a good round because Burl didn’t yell at me and told me I had several good shots. I am having more fun each time I play and it was a beautiful day to be out – what’s not to like?
Ron and Barb came over for dinner and then we played a rousing game of Mexican Train which I won on the last round – beat Ron by a mere 7 points! We all plan to be in San Diego over New Year’s so are making plans to get together for dinner and more Mexican Train along with Len and Stacey. Hopefully it will be warmer than it is here.
This morning when I woke up I was thinking how I no longer think about it being Monday except that I have a class at the gym at 10 – but I don’t have to start mentally scheduling my work week. While I was savoring my first cup of coffee and reading our lame excuse for a newspaper, Tammy called and said her car wouldn’t start. Steve had already tried to jump it so it appeared she’d need to have it towed – but at the moment she was interested in a ride to Harter House which I provided along with a trip to Sam’s.
But first I had to back out of the garage! Sounds like a no-brainer, doesn’t it? You get in the car, turn on the ignition, put it in reverse, back up. Oh wait – I forgot the part about “look to see if anything is behind you”.
I remembered that part when I heard the sound of my bumper saying “Good Morning” to the right side of Burl’s beloved Beater Truck!
This vehicle is normally parked in the back 40 near our storage building but Burl had picked it up from his shade tree mechanic yesterday after golf and just conveniently parked it at the side of our drive.
His “baby” is a 1989 GMC that he decided to keep when he got his spiffy red 2006 Silverado. The GMC has truly earned its name of Beater Truck since it has more than its share of dings and dents – and thanks to me, the passenger side door won’t open. The good news…gotta look for that silver lining…is that you can’t see any damange on my Accord. Whew!
BREAKING NEWS UPDATE: Turns out the reason the passenger side door won’t open is because it was locked! DUH! Guess I’m not the only one whose blondeness was showing. Dear hubby did say that while it will open, it makes a scraping noise. Uh Oh!
I ran inside to confess and Burl was much more concerned with finding golf playmates for the morning – his first group canceled due to the cool temps and he was determined to find some other hardy souls to go follow that ball around 18 holes. I love a man with priorities!
So Tammy and I did her chores, I got to my class at the gym, ran a few errands and now the dog and I are going to savor some quiet time with the new book I just got at the library – “Confessions of a Mafia Boss – Gaspipe”. I loves me some mob stories – especially the true stuff.
And no cooking tonight – our new neighbors, Tammy and Steve, have invited us over for Tex-Mex Soup.
