Today I racked up tons of paybacks from Tammy as I helped her paint one wall of her dining room and one wall of her “coffee nook”.  The dining room is a 70′s avocado green – the other wall is orange.  If I do say so, they both look spectacular but then we had anal-retentive Tammy (she’s a chip off this old block) doing all the trim work by hand while I manned the roller.  At one point, Burl showed up with the extension rod for the roller and barely managed to escape alive after turning into the supervisor from hell!

What’s really annoying is that I’ve discovered Tammy really did pay attention to me at times.  One of her favorite phrases today was “if a job is worth doing, it’s worth doing right” – apparently that’s one I often heard while growing up and then passed on to my kids.  I’ll have to admit that I don’t follow it as diligently as Tammy but today she kept me on task – especially when the paint started drying and needed to be re-covered in some places.

But we had a fun day and she even let me pick out the music from her extensive collection.  I’m excited to see their home come alive with their distinctive touches – she has a wonderful flair for color and design and while she asked my opinion on several areas, I really feel she doesn’t need a bit of help.  Reinforcement possibly but she’s the expert when it comes to good taste.

Lest you think it’s been all work and no play today, we made an early morning trip to Sam’s on my business card and got to shop before normal store hours.  Nothing like cheap thrills to entertain us.

  1. You forgot to mention that you took some time to read the latest issue of People Stylewatch! Again, I can’t thank you enough for all your help. You did a great job painting and the rooms look wonderful! Guess I’ll be returning the favor when you decide to redecorate.
