Yesterday was Moving Day for Tammy and Steve – they closed on their “old” home at 9:30, were homeless for about an hour and then closed on their “new” home. Meanwhile, back at the ranch (old home) I started loading up our truck with small items and met the movers who took care of the furniture, appliances and heavy stuff. As soon as they were back being homeowners, Steve arrived to relieve me and I headed to their new home to meet Tammy and start the first unloading.
By about 4:30 my energy was lagging so I left them with the dregs (and the cats) to retrieve at the old place and headed home to shower so we could join friends Becky and Clarence for dinner at their home. It was nice to sit on their deck, drink a beer, eat grilled shrimp and visit after a long day of physical work. Becky fixed a yummy dinner and we had fun visiting until we were all yawning and ready to call it a night.
This morning I did mundane household chores and then Burl the Handyman and I were back at Tammy and Steve’s. He worked his magic on some electrical stuff and installed a new front door lock while I helped empty boxes – interrupted by a trip to a storage pod to retrieve a trailer-load and car-load of stuff – then back to continue the unpacking. When we left around 4:30 the place was shaping up nicely – there’s still a lot to bring from their storage pod and boxes piled in the garage but they have made a major dent in getting settled into their new digs.
I purposely am not posting photos as I’ll leave that up to Tammy and Steve to share – but suffice it to say this house is perfect for them. It was built in the early 70′s and has a total of 6 levels including a sleeping loft just perfect for a couple of little girls I know – when they are older, of course. The ceilings and roof lines are quite angular and I think the lower level (Tammy’s studio) and the bathrooms are the only parts of the house that completely close off from other rooms. The floor plan is very open which makes the home seem much larger than it is. Their furniture fits perfect and already the home reflects their eclectic tastes.
I especially love it because their dining room is larger than mine and I’m looking forward to a change of scenery at Thanksgiving. I can still cook but it will be fun to enjoy that special dinner in the ambiance of their home.
Tonight we’re crashing at home – ate some leftover soup after I took our neglected dog for a walk and now we’re going to watch the MU Tigers try to overtake the Texas Longhorns. MU is already down 28-zip so it could be a long evening for our team.
In other news of the last few days:
- Burl once again lost his cell phone – however, this time the wandering phone is nowhere to be found. He had an old phone he can use until his current contract runs out so he had his duplicate SIM card activated (and another duplicate made) and is back in business again. I’m searching for the Super Glue to attach it to his butt!
- Our lengthy search for a used riding mower is over and we are the now the proud owners of a John Deere – haven’t yet picked it up but Burl is excited and I’ll let him do the test driving until the novelty wears off!
- My work was pleasantly interrupted today by a call from pal Vickie – she and Hannah needed to know the color of the hot new OPI nail polish! Now all 3 Women of Substance and our protege, Hannah, are sporting that color.
- I proved my undying love for Burl by suggesting that instead of a gift for my birthday (and his anniversary) we should plan a trip for a few days – some place where we can play golf. We both have so much STUFF that I can’t even think of anything I want. He’s still recovering from the shock of my actually suggesting playing golf – but I think we’re going out again tomorrow afternoon. One of his friends told him that we should play scrambles only for at least a year and that will be beneficial to us both. I like that idea!
Time to go cheer for MU – they need help!
Had it not been for you guys this past weekend I’d probably be decorating my room at the mental institution. Thanks a million for everything!
