Pal Vickie not only suggested this amazing book to me – she also told me in an earlier email today that I should “enjoy the rain and read” today.  For once I was smart enough to follow directions so for the last 30 minutes I have savored the last few pages including the After Words and The Story Behind THE SHACK from the author, William P. Young.

This book is getting lots of buzz atop the New York Times Bestseller fiction list as well as within the religious/spiritual community and for good reason.  I won’t spoil the plot for anyone who hasn’t read it but from the book cover notes you can determine that the main character, Mack, is summoned to a shack by God for the weekend.  For the record, God is a large black woman with a great sense of humor!  What follows are his experiences and his confrontation of his Great Sadness which relates to the abduction and presumed murder of his youngest daughter, Missy.

It would have been easy to read it on the surface as a sweet story but I don’t think that’s really possible if you have faith.  Instead I was drawn into the book in such a way that I found myself slowing down my reading in order to absorb the whole message and then thinking about passages at the oddest times.  I really think I need to fully reflect on the book for a couple of months and then read it again – I’ll know the “story” so I can then concentrate on the “message”.

If you’re a believer….or you want to become one….treat yourself to a phenomenal read.
