This morning after church we were talking about how to enjoy this beautiful warm, sunny day and Burl suggested we play 9 holes of golf. Other choices included taking Mulligan on a hike in the woods or taking a scenic drive on the motorcycle but surprisingly I chose golf! I did warn him on the way to our club that I was only playing for fun and we agreed we’d play a 2-person scramble because we’d like to make a better showing at our couples golf league.
We ended up having a great time – he was patient and used his teaching expertise instead of his dictatorial approach and he helped me think through each shot and set up my putts. I even sunk a birdie putt that was at least 20 feet from the hole and the guy playing behind us clapped for me! Our final score was a respectable 39 which was 3 over so we were both quite pleased.
Since our club is part of a consortium of several courses in 7-8 states we’re thinking we may venture into Arkansas for a couple of days later in the month and play some of those courses. As part of our membership we only have to pay cart fees – such a deal! I’m thinking weekend trip to celebrate my Birthiversary!
We’re winding up a relaxing weekend and getting ready for our weekly dose of smut with “Desperate Housewives” which is the only time I ever watch TV. Friday night we attended a lovely wedding followed by a great reception with a lively 6-piece band that played great dance music. Usually at these events most people sit and drink and visit while the band plays but at this one, there were more people on the dance floor than watching. That’s the mark of a fun party!
Tomorrow we’re taking a “vacation day” and heading to Branson with friends Pete and Nancy before they catch an early-evening flight back to Columbus. They’ve been gone from this area long enough that they actually want to see Branson and all the changes so we’re happy to oblige – especially since it means all day with 2 dear friends. Burl is taking the day off from golf and I’m staying away from the gym – it will be tough but I think we’re up to the challenge.
