Am I dreaming or was that a tag line for AT&T at one time? With the apparent demise of Burl’s cell phone yesterday, his ability to reach out and call/touch anyone was severely limited – especially since the only record he has of his phone list is actually on the SIM card. He was relegated to borrowing my phone or….horrors….using the land line!
However, he apparently has been living a very clean life because last night, our son-in-law Steve got a call from a guy in West Siloam Springs, AR who has the phone. Seems he scrolled through Burl’s contact list, saw Steve’s name and knowing there was a NASCAR driver by the same name, called him in hopes he’d get lucky and talk to a real celebrity!
Surprisingly, the phone is intact – it was found in a parking lot and the SIM card had fallen out but once installed, the phone works great. The honest guy who found it has agreed to send it to Springfield on Saturday with a friend – or Burl will jump on the motorcycle and ride for 6 hours round-trip to pick it up. I’m betting on the latter because I don’t see him going without his phone tether for 5 more days.
