Ready To Turn Pro….NOT!   1 comment

We’ve always joked at our house that playing golf was “going to work” for Burl because he doesn’t always have fun on the golf course.  We both had early tee times for tournaments today so when the alarm sounded at 5:45, he told Mulligan that Mom and Dad were both going to work today – to which I responded that I wasn’t going to work – I was going to have fun – AND I DID!

Here’s our team for the Ozarks Women’s Links – me, Dawn, Becky and Carol – and what a fun team we were too!  Becky and I are both new to this game but we held our own with the veterans in our foursome and even managed to birdie #13 with our shots.  Needless to say, we were pumped and couldn’t wait to get home and tell our hubbies who shake their heads in wonder at us when we attempt to play.

It took us a few holes to get cranking this morning and Dawn was really sluggish until the Beer Wagon showed up about 10.  We reasoned it was 5 o’clock somewhere and while I doubt I’ve had beer at that hour since the days of Sigma Nu Sadie Hawkins at Drury, it sure got our game moving!!!  We ended up with a 77 (par of 69), weren’t DFL, had a fabulous time and are already making plans to play together in this tournament next year.

Kudos to Tournament Chair Nancy Bolduc and her committee – you can read her comments on this job on her blog.  (Note the disclaimer:  your author was a member of the committee but contributed very little so takes no credit for the success of the event!)  Since we played in the morning round we had perfect weather with plenty of sunshine, not too much wind and great temps – the later crowd got more clouds and wind.

Burl really did end up going to work – he had one of his least favorite days on the course even though he got to play Twin Oaks.  I think I buoyed his spirits when I told him I think I can get into this game – the key to enjoying it is to quit playing with my husband and stick to my girlfriends!!!

  1. So…did you not get the memo to wear pink? Or did your teammates not get the memo to wear red, white and blue?

Glad you had a fun day on the course. I can’t say I would enjoy it, but I doubt you want to spend the day making jewelry! Thank goodness you had wonderful weather.
