And The Last Shall Be First

Couples golf scramble tonight at the club.  Not exactly high on my Top 100 List of Fun Things To Do but Keith and Carol asked us to play with them so we did.  It was only a 9-hole scramble and we DID use 8 of my shots but when we tallied up a 44 when par is 36, I knew we were DFL.  In fact, I was surprised that Burl agreed to meet everyone for dinner and drinks after the game but we had to show up in order to find out who won.

I saw the organizers, Jim and Glenda, listing all the scores and sure ’nuff – no one had anything higher than 44 – and the closest score to us was a 40.  Not looking too good for our team……until Jim announced that tonight they had done an Upside Down tournament and our 44 put us in first place!  We parlayed our $20 investment into $35 winnings which almost covered our tab at a cheap Mexican restaurant.

I’m guessing the best thing about the evening is that Burl managed to live despite a few trying times when I considered cheerfully strangling him.  The jury is still out on whether or not we can ever play this game together.  On the way home he said we should just go out by ourselves and play for “fun” sometime – I think we need to give it a try only because I’m not sure he knows how to play for “fun”.

Tomorrow we’re off to Fulton for my class reunion – it’s my 25th reunion (of my 20th reunion!!!).  I just hope there aren’t a bunch of old people there.  :-)
