Moxie Monday   Leave a comment

I read the weekly emails from the Moxie Cinema and always learn about movies that I’d like to see but Burl would hate.  Before Life 2.0 there just weren’t many opportunities to spend my time with movies unless it was a date night for us.   I have several friends whose taste in movies, like mine, runs to the artsy, foreign flicks and tonight my friend Jan and I saw “Brideshead Revisited” while Burl attended a Shrine meeting.

“Brideshead” would have put him to sleep in about 15 minutes but I loved the leisurely pace it presented along with gorgeous scenery and a beautiful musical score, not to mention superb acting.  I’m sure I never read this particular Evelyn Waugh book but I may have to put it on my reading list now.  Jan and I had time to visit before and after the movie so naturally caught up on our grandkids.

Speaking of the grandkids – we survived our babysitting gig in Des Moines with flying colors and Ralph reports the girls both mentioned today that they missed us.  Julia and I went to Fazoli’s for lunch on Saturday – her choice – where she ate her child’s spaghetti and downed 4 bread sticks!  Then we went to “Wall-E” where I bought her the child’s concession special – she got popcorn and fruit snacks and I got the Diet Coke!  She was so excited to see the movie but I knew early on that we wouldn’t last for the whole thing.  It was easy for me to see the underlying message – if we don’t clean up our act on earth, we will soon be covered in trash – but Julia saw a movie with a cute little robot who lived in a drab world that was very noisy.  After 30 minutes, we left.  Too bad “Kit Kittridge” was no longer playing – I’m ready to get her started on American Girl dolls.

Since Lydia was home napping Julia and I had time to go to the library – according to her “it’s a lot more fun to go to the library, Grammie – it’s not scary and I LOVE to read” – that’s my girl!  We picked out books and a video – then went home to read together.  We decided it’s not what we did that made the day fun, but the fact that we got to do things together.

Now it’s time for me to crawl in bed and read myself to sleep – one of the treasures of each day.
