Women of Substance – September Edition   Leave a comment

In our quest for non-chain restaurants, tonight we dined at Riad which features Mediterranean fare.  We had originally planned to eat at the one downtown and follow with dessert at Fedora’s for chocolate fondue but work conflicts and weather changed our plans to the southside location where we could park at the door and not worry about getting wet and melting!  :-)

Here are the snippets of conversation that are available for general audiences:

  • Sarah Palin – Vickie and Robin really like her – Anne will vote for McCain but still not sure picking Palin was a good choice (and that opinion has zero to do with her daughter’s pregnancy)
  • NPR called the release of all ghosts in the Palin family closet “flushing the toilet on information”
  • Robin had on a killer necklace and apparently I recognize true talent because she revealed that Tammy had made it!  It was the Wine Diva necklace.
  • Vickie and Hannah got makeovers at Sephora and tried the Bare Minerals.  She didn’t buy but found a whole set online for $20.  Robin swears by Bare Minerals – looks like I need to give this stuff a try.
  • Hannah had worried about her team in middle school – turns out she’s with a small group that includes 40 really cute boys and also is allowing her to distance herself from some toxic friends.
  • Vickie is heading to the Windy City this weekend for a marketing conference.  So far the hot pre-conference activity for several of the women is a bra fitting at the place Oprah recommends – check it out online at myintimacy.com
  • Vickie and Chas recently celebrated their 20th anniversary and he re-enacted the proposal.  Since their first date was at Parrino’s, he wanted to have dinner there on the balcony of the 2nd floor.  Unfortunately it was closed that night so they dined on the upper level of McSalty’s.
  • Robin just got a new treadmill which features an iPod docking station.  Me?   I just clip my iPod shuffle to my t-shirt!
  • Hannah is now in 8th grade and claims that Miley Cyrus is “so 6th grade”!
  • Our waiter tonight was JT who started out as just a friendly guy but morphed into someone extremely annoying.  Good waiters should be like children – seen and not heard and only speak when spoken to unless it’s to take your order or ask if you need anything else.  Since he was the only waiter in sight I don’t think Jerk Radar would have helped.
  • Suggested read:  “Liberating Paris” by Linda Bloodsworth Thompson
  • Vickie claims the 7th graders in her Sunday School class are innocent and naive – let’s see what she has to say at the end of the year.
  • Robin’s heading to Philadelphia next week for 3 days of meetings for her team and a new client.  She’s nervous but we know how great she is and predict she’ll do a stellar job.

That’s all folks – next month is the original Mexican Villa at National and Bennett.
