………you get your first pension check! Wow – what a thrill. I went on-line tonight to update our check book and immediately knew the balance was too high which is just as scary as when it appears to be too low. However closer inspection revealed that my first pension check had been automatically deposited.
I knew it was supposed to start August 1st but I had just turned in my paperwork to our HR department a couple of weeks ago so was told it would be delayed but they would catch it up later. I figured unless it took months and months we’d be fine – the dog would still get fed and Burl could buy gas for the motorcycle and golf balls and I could keep adding to my yarn stash.
But the Pension Gods smiled on me and let me tell you, it’s a very nice feeling. Knowing that I worked my butt off for all those years and now I get my reward – sure it’s all taxable and sure the monthly amount will never change but in these days of shrinking defined benefit plans, I feel very blessed to have worked for an organization that made it possible for me to kiss the bucking fudget good-by while I can still enjoy life and will pay me for hopefully the next 40 years.
Pension this month – next month, Social Security! Life 2.0 ROCKS!
