It’s already Wednesday and the week is flying by – for someone who never watches TV (exception:  Desperate Housewives) I am consumed with the Olympics every evening.  We forgot to record the opening ceremonies but have watched every night since.  I jump, cheer and practically swim the distance with Michael Phelps and Katie Hoff and last night I almost cried when one of our gymnasts had a fall while mounting the balance beam.  Best of all, I love the human interest stories – the ones that tell the real story behind the athletes and tell me that even if they don’t leave with a gold medal, they have earned one in life already.

Last evening the presidents of the local Rotary clubs met to celebrate our first month in office and we had so much fun we figure we’d better repeat monthly.  We had good alcohol therapy and shared our challenges and successes thus far along with some ideas we hope will work to build stronger clubs.  It’s a great group (4 women and a token male!) and I love that we are all so supportive of each other and not competitive which is how it should be since we all have the same universal goals.

Yesterday brought unsettling news to our family concerning Steve’s job – you can read the news in his own words at his blog but suffice it to say he and Tammy need support and prayers and if you can throw in the ideal job along with everything else, they will be forever grateful.  I usually keep family issues away from my postings but Steve has declared this is no time for keeping quiet and he’s reaching out for help – here’s hoping he gets a lifeline thrown his way in very short order.

This afternoon we ventured back to my old stomping grounds at Cox for a reception to honor former boss and good friend Norb along with his wife Ann as they just completed a 3700+ mile bike ride across the US.  Their photos were as amazing as they are – both looked incredibly fit and relaxed and I’m so pleased they were able to accomplish this longtime goal with no major accidents or setbacks.  It’s a ride I’d love to do myself but since Burl has no desire I’ll stick to the riding I’m doing now – besides when we ride that far on the GoldWing I also get to read great books.  Speaking of which………..I just picked up a couple from the library and they are calling my name.  :-)
