It’s official!  The Springfield Business Journal has confirmed what I knew all along – friend Vickie, a Woman of Substance, is one of the 20 Most Influential Women in Springfield for 2008.  Way to go Vick – we are so proud of you for bringing honor and glory to our select group.  We will definitely be celebrating on Tuesday night when we have our monthly enclave.  And you can bet I’ll be there to cheer her on September 26th when she is honored at a special luncheon.  Yeah for our team!

We played couples golf this evening – it seemed like a good idea at the time and we were even paired with good friends Ron and Barb which is always fun but for one thing it was too freakin’ hot to be outside – then Barb started feeling bad and they left us after 7 holes so we finished on our own.  I had some decent shots (for me anyway) but Burl was tired after already playing 18 holes today and I know we were DFL.  Needless to say, we didn’t stick around to see all the results posted nor did we join some of the others for dinner and drinks – I knew he’d be in a pissy mood if he heard everyone talking about scores.

Since we were already on the north side of town we opted for Applebee’s but they had a 30 minute wait so second choice was Ruby Tuesday.  We were both exhausted and hungry when we got there and then when our server told us they don’t carry Bud Light Lime we both got rather pissy – not directly to our server but just sat there and hemmed and hawed around trying to decide if/what we wanted to drink and whether or not to even order.  Not candidates for customers of the year!

Burl finally ordered a strawberry margarita and I opted for water but our server knew we were not happy campers.  Pretty soon the manager came over and offered to buy us a round of drinks – she was absolutely delightful and got our bad attitudes turned around not so much with the free drink order but by letting us know that’s her favorite beer too and she could understand where we were coming from.  In the end, Burl got a deluxe margarita and I got a Miller Chill – the food was great, we tipped the waitress heavily and apologized to her and on the way out, thanked the manager and told her we will definitely be back.

That smart manager knew how to take a couple of drinks and turn us around so we’re not griping about Ruby Tuesday’s but now singing their praises.  Service recovery at its finest.

  1. Next time one of you has a birthday I’m going to buy you a case of Bud Light Lime so you’ll quit yer bitchin’! You need a back up drink for those times you go out and can’t find your fave beer. At least you had some good service and ended up in a better mood. You’re right, good customer service can go a long way and create a loyal customer in the end. Glad things worked out!

  2. Hey we had plenty of beer at home – just wanted it with our meal last night. We would have headed for Wheat State Pizza and possibly seen you all but since they don’t serve beer, we decided we’ll try it for lunch some time.
