Fun day today – Burl left before 7 to meet his motorcycling buddies for breakfast so Mulligan and I enjoyed coffee on the deck followed by a walk after our breakfast. Then I actually had to do hair and makeup for the first time in 5 days! I made it to the gym for my 10:00 class, then cleaned up and met former co-worker Laurie for lunch. She had to return to her pesky day job and I had time to kill before a doctor’s appointment so figured I’d better use it wisely.
Tammy had called earlier to let me know there was an additional 40% off sale prices at Dillard’s so you can bet I headed to the mall. On the chance that my daughter might be there too I called her – she was on her way so we met and shopped for a bit. I really wasn’t looking for anything in particular other than a bargain but when we got to dresses I found several cute ones that begged for me to try them on. Ended up with a darling black and while sheath that will be perfect for the wedding of friends Becky and Clarence at the end of August and it’s in the size I wanted to buy.
Tammy gave her seal of approval and I thought all was well – but according to her, in order to have a complete stylish look, I had to have new shoes to accent the black and white. Her suggestion was something eye-popping like red patent and it doesn’t take much encouragement to get me to buy red shoes. Away we went to the shoe department and now I have killer sling-back sandals in red patent to complete my look. Now I would have bought the dress on my own but I will swear before a judge that it’s Tammy’s fault I bought the shoes!! Second pair this week thanks to her – the other pair she found on sale for me at 87% off and how could I possibly pass on a bargain like that? I swear – I don’t know who raised this kid but I guarantee you her mother didn’t have her flair for style or fashion. I’m just glad she shares her fashion sense with me.
I barely made it to my physicians’ office in time for my 2:00 appointment and by 1:59 I was already in an exam room – unbelievable. My physician is a really cool person in addition to being a top doctor and we started commiserating about trying to keep weight off and the constant battle we have – she swears by WW and I just had to share with her that I had to log an entire bottle of white wine in my food diary last Saturday – a comment that she found quite funny. By time I exited the exam room she was waiting to give me my lab results and had her copy of the WW Food Guide and was checking out the points for white wine. We finally decided a 750 ml bottle has 14 points max (4 ounces = 2 points) and while we were having this enlightening discussion, one of her partners got in on the conversation and we talked for 20 minutes about shoes, sales, wine and WW. Gotta love a physician with good fashion, wine and shoe sense!
One bonus to the doctor visit is that I got to register for Patient Express which is a secure website where I can schedule my own appointments, get lab results, renew prescriptions and tons of other patient-friendly features. Love having a provider who’s in the 21st century.
On the way home I stopped to visit friend Robin who had surgery on her foot and ankle last week. She has to keep her foot elevated above her heart for 3 weeks and is quite uncomfortable so welcomed the company. I took her a drink and several magazines and stayed with her so her hubby could go run some errands. Finally got home around 6 and felt like I’d been gone for 3 days. Whew!
Guess I’d better decide which shoes have to go to the thrift shop – I vowed that when I buy new ones, I’ll get rid of ones I no longer wear. Shouldn’t be too difficult – I’ll just look for some boring pump I used to wear to work with pantyhose.
Right! Like i really had to twist your arm to buy a new pair of shoes. Still, I couldn’t let you wear the suede platforms with that dress. You needed something dressier and brighter. Besides, what else are you going to do with your money? Let your kids inherit it?!
Your new shoes sound fabulous, and will be the perfect touch with your dress… plus you got the dress on sale, so that justifies purchasing the shoes!! (There’s some creative accounting for you, former Budget Queen!)
And I loved that you looked up the WW points for a whole bottle of wine… boy, by the time I’m that “bad” on a weekend, (which is very, very often) I just give up on the point counting and then start over on Monday.
Perhaps that’s why I’m not seeing the pounds come off like I’d like!
Love hearing about Life 2.0, keep it up!
Tammy – what’s the deal? Do you buy into the idea of personal responsibility or something. What weird parents you must have had. I agree on the shoes – I would have figured out on my own not to wear the new black ones although they did look killer today w/black/white capris and a black top.
Nancy – love the creative accounting comment – do you need some tips for your budget this year? You can tell I paid for all those empty calories and points but I did refrain from using all my extra 35 points for the week – barely!
