Weekend Retreat   Leave a comment

We had friends invite us to their home at the lake for the weekend so early Saturday morning we were headed south to get away from whatever it is we have to get away from now.  The original plans were to take the GoldWing but not only did we need to leave baked goods for Tarah’s bake sale in Nixa but the weather forecast was less than favorable for staying dry the whole time we were gone – so we turned into wimps and took the 4-wheeled Honda.

The four of us spent the afternoon lazing on their dock, taking a boat ride, drinking margritas and just generally relaxing – especially for them since they are young and have those pesky day jobs during the week!  :-)   We fixed a yummy dinner on the grill and just as we sat down to eat (indoors) the rains began – thank goodness for their covered porch across the back of the house as we retreated there after dinner and proceeded to imbibe in wine and conversation for the next several hours.  I never thought I’d need to post the WW points for an entire bottle of white wine but I did – AND I was still coherent and NOT hung over on Sunday.  BTW, that bottle had a total of 21 points – my allotment for one day.  :-(   But it sure was darned tasty wine.

Sunday we enjoyed a farmhouse breakfast since that is the specialty of our hostess on Sunday mornings – hot biscuits, bacon, eggs, fresh fruit – just exactly what Burl would NOT have gotten at home since I specialize in Kashi and fruit.  We took the WaveRunner out for a spin while the water was calm and then engaged in more lazing on the dock in the sun.  All too soon it was time to head for home so our hosts could wrap up a peaceful weekend and we could host Burl’s Shrine unit for a potluck picnic.

Yesterday I was on the bike bright and early as I had to do my fasting labs at my physician’s office prior to my annual physical this week.  Good thing I only had a 10-mile ride because by time I got done at her office I was famished.  I headed for the gym, stopped at the library and by time I got home I was ready to stay indoors.  Our pool is a nasty shade of green after the rains last week and while it’s perfectly safe to use it’s just not appealing plus I was on a mission to finish cleaning all the cabinets, shelves and drawers in my bathroom.  Mission has now been accomplished and I feel quite virtuous with the results – plus I organized my boatload of gift-with-purchase goodies from Estee and Lancome from the last few years.

This morning I had a conference call at the Girl Scouts and by time I got home it was 85 out.  The weather forecast was calling for a high of 88 so being the dumb-ass that I am I figured a 30-mile ride to Rogersville was just the thing – NOT!  The good news is that I survived with no flats plus found a wonderful new yarn shop, One City Market Yarn Shop, complete with great items, decent prices and very friendly staff.   I’ll definitely be planning to shop next time and I hope to get in on some of their classes too.  The bad news - it was 96 on our deck when I returned – definitely too hot to be riding for “fun”.

I’m now showered and ready to meet Tammy and Steve to help move furniture to their storage building in anticipation of putting their home on the market early next week.  While the offer they made on another home was refused I still believe it’s the home for them and they are forging ahead on faith that it will all work out.  Keep them in your thoughts and prayers for the right decisions.
