When I had that pesky day job, even the mention of a 7:00 a.m. meeting made me cringe. I’d set the alarm early, then sleep fitfully and wake up un-rested already dreading another boring meeting in the conference room where we re-hashed many of the same issues from the week/month/year before. But a 6:00 a.m. meeting with friend Sarah was a different matter – I awoke readily at 5:30 when the alarm sounded and was already at our meeting spot a few minutes before 6 ready for our early morning bike ride.
We had originally planned to ride on the Galloway Trail but quickly figured out that would slow us down so we rode through part of Southern HIlls and headed south – then turned back at another trail-head and ended our ride on the trail. The morning was beautiful and even though we only rode for about 45 minutes (Sarah had to get to her pesky day job but hey, she’s only a kid!) it was exhilerating and fun.
I got home a little after 7 and discovered the guys (Burl & Mulligan) still snoozing away so I grabbed the paper and a cup of coffee and sat on the deck and enjoyed the peace and quiet. Burl has now gone to get the car inspected and renew the license and I’m heading off for a 30-mile ride to Rogersville before it gets too hot. Life is good….er, make that GREAT!
Life is great, indeed!
I’m so glad to see that you are enjoying retirement.
I’m so jealous!
