Vacation Update

Live- from a real PC this morning – we are at a ranch in the mountains of the Anza-Borrega Desert outside the small burg of Anza.  We got here yesterday and met up with other members of the International Fellowship of Motorcycling Rotarians – there are about a dozen of us here and last night our hostess provided comfy accommodations.  We had the “honeymoon suite” which consisted of a large tent, queen size blow-up bed and toasty, warm sleeping bag.  I had my trust earplugs to ward off the “freight train” who shared the tent with me but the other campers reported hearing the sound of coyotes in the distant during the night.

This morning we sat out on Jean’s deck and enjoyed our coffee as the sun came up and bathed the surroundings with sunlight.  Burl is in motorcycle heaven with a whole new group of guys to discuss their machines – a beautiful collection of GoldWings, BMW touring bikes and one lone Harley rented by a fellow from British Columbia who flew in and rented a bike for a few days.

We’ll be breaking camp soon and heading into LA to my home for the next few days – Hotel Kawada – and the Rotary International Convention.  We’re going to explore LA this afternoon and evening before Burl takes off to spend a few days in San Diego with Stacey and her family – he’s excited to get to be with her for both Father’s Day AND her birthday.

We’ve seen some beautiful parts of the country this week – toured Hearst Castle on Thursday which I compare to a less-opulent Palace of Versailles but then William Randolph Hearst used his own money to build and furnish his castle while Louis XVI used the coffers of France to finance his!  It was truly a spectacular place and we predict we’ll be back to take one of the many tours they offer.  Yesterday we spent a few hours at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library which we thoroughly enjoyed.

Best of all, I’m on Day #7 with no makeup and no hair styling – ball caps and helmets work great on this head and just think of all the time I’m saving!  I can see Tammy reading this and wondering how anyone can get through a day without doing their hair or putting on makeup but I predict lots of them in my future!

Off to LA – adios!
