D-Day   Leave a comment

64 years ago today, Allied Forces crossed the English Channel and stormed the beaches of Normandy in a gruesome battle that was one of the defining moments of World War II.  Today I stormed through the doors of CoxHealth in one of the most defining moments of my life – Life 2.0 has begun on my personal D-Day, better known as Done Day.

My office held a luncheon for me in the conference room and showered me with a great selection of gifts – a new floatie for the pool, Appletini mix and shaker, new books to read on the motorcycle or in the pool, a spiffy new pedometer complete with safety strap so I won’t lose this one and a digital picture frame to show all my future vacation photos.  I was overwhelmed and appreciate so much the thought and effort they put into launching my new “career”.   The luncheon provided time for reflection on all these people and Cox mean to me and as I got teary and maudlin, Bob, our CEO, quickly changed the mood with a hilarious photo meant to depict Burl and me on the GoldWing.

After lunch there was a reception in the Board Room with a yummy cake, punch, tea, etc. – but someone forgot the frozen margaritas!  Guess the ghost of Lester E. Cox peering down from his portrait preventing such folly.  I had briefly wondered if anyone would show up for it and was pleasantly surprised to have a steady stream of friends and co-workers for well over 2 hours.  Fellow blogger Nancy tells me a photo will be available on her blog soon so I’ll keep you posted!

I cleared out the rest of my “crap” and left a little before 5 with lots of hugs, dry eyes and no regrets.  As I drove out of the parking lot, dear friend Becky was on the phone from Minnesota wishing me a fond farewell since she was off today and couldn’t be there.  Then daughter Cindy called with more wishes.

I have now either put away or stored in the lower level all the boxes I drug home.  I’ve had dinner, walked the dog and now I’m going to open my assortment of cards and savor the rest of the day – before I start packing for our trip.

Life 2.0 has begun – bring it on!
