When the alarm sounded this morning (and I hit the SNOOZE button for the first time) I realized today is the last Monday morning of my career. Even though my secretary is already weepy this morning, I’m looking at the week so far rather matter-of-fact-like – it is what it is and I don’t think the emotions will kick in until later in the week. I’ve already expended a ton of emotional energy just making the decision and was teary on January 4th when I made the official announcement so whether or not my emotions stay in check this week remains to be seen.
Okay – forget that last paragraph – as I finished that sentence, my secretary walked in with the most beautiful bouquet of flowers from Tammy and Ralph and their families and now I’m crying – guess it’s going to be a more emotional week that I anticipated!
I do have a “to do” list for the week but it contains stuff like:
- Apply for Social Security
- Finish cleaning out my office
- Meet with financial planner to rollover my 403b and 457b accounts
- Submit my Flex Spending Account detail
- Clean out my email files
- Send my new contact info to Cox associates
- Enjoy my retirement luncheon and reception on Friday
Then Saturday I can start packing for our trip – this time next week we should be leaving west Texas and crossing into New Mexico.
PS to Steve – I took the photo of the flowers with my iPhone, saved it on the desktop and uploaded it to my blog – I’m feeling very “techie” thanks to you!
