Summer Nights   Leave a comment

The last few days have morphed into summer and with the pool now uncovered, I’m feeling summerish.  Friday evening we played couples golf at our club and fortunately did NOT finish DFL (that’s dead f’ing last!) no thanks on my part but hey, I never said I could golf, just that I had clubs.  But my favorite part of the evening came after golf when we went out for Mexican food and alcohol therapy with several friends – and then we came home to enjoy sitting in the swing on our deck.  There was just enough light to see the water glistening in the pool and the flowers and coupled with the evening sounds, I realize how much I define summer after dark.

Yesterday we had grand plans to make further headway on staining the deck but the weather was uncooperative.  Intermittent rain left the wood on the railings too damp to stain so instead I did laundry and unpacked several boxes I brought home from the office which then prompted a purging of stuff in our home office – a viscious circle!  Even cleaned out the utility room and by time the sun came out, Mulligan was ready to take me for a long walk.

Last evening we attended a wedding party for the daughter of our neighbor and it was definitely my kind of party.  The weather cleared and he set up a huge tent behind his party barn so we were treated to lemon martinis and a feast catered by Clary’s (yum, yum) along with great music and lots of fun people.  Burl loved the fact that he could see people arriving and assess the dress code so at the last minute he was happy to change out of long pants into shorts, casual shirt and sandals.  We sauntered home around 11 and once again headed for the porch swing and watched the lightening in the northern sky.

It’s looking rainy again so I’d better head out on my walk with Mulligan before we’re relegated to staying indoors.  Here’s hoping for a dry spell for part of the afternoon so I can plant some flowers and pull more weeds!
