Practice Makes Perfect   1 comment

I’ve spent the last few days practicing for Life 2.0 and I think I’m getting the hang of it!  I took a vacation day on Friday and we left bright and early for Des Moines on the motorcycle.  While we didn’t encounter any rain I was sure glad we had our rain gear as I needed another layer of clothing after we passed Kansas City – isn’t this the merry month of May or did we re-run March?

Ralph and Blair had plans for Friday night so we entertained Lydia and Julia – or should I say, they entertained us!  We took them to Ted’s Coney Island to eat and had yummy gyros.  Then on to Snookie’s which is their favorite ice cream spot in the neighborhood.  They are both so fun to take out now since they are pretty independent.  Saturday dawned cold and rainy which meant the guys had to cancel golf and we had to change our plans of a picnic in the park.  The guys opted for breakfast out and a trip to Lowe’s to get stuff for a couple of projects and we packed our lunch and went to Jumping Jacks for a couple of hours to let the girls jump on the inflatables and run off steam.

By time they were ready for nap/quiet time, Ralph, Burl and I made tracks for the mall.  Most of our shopping was at Gymboree and Baby Gap but hey, those are the fun places to shop and Grammie does like to pick out cute things for her babies.  Burl called me while we were shopping and left a voicemail – and since I hadn’t yet figured out that option, I just stopped in the Apple store and got a quick tutorial!  We finished off Saturday with one of Ralph’s gourmet meals followed by “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.”

We came home yesterday – fortunately no rain along the way – and started in one more deck staining.  It’s the project that has no end but at least we’re making headway!  Spent all day today on the deck trying to get it usable for a picnic on Wednesday night.  No staining today but I did wash all the windows and screens plus the mini-blinds then put the window treatments back up – then cleaned all the furniture and got it back on the deck so tonight we had our first official summer meal outside!  We also got the cover off the pool and are filling it so we can start the pump and get the chemicals flowing!

I had hoped to start working on the yard today but that will have to wait until the weekend.  The weeds are definitely winning but we also have a few flowers blooming – evening primrose, day , hibiscus, impatiens.  I keep thinking I’ll have plenty of time this summer to tackle these projects and yet this little voice keeps telling me to dream on!  Between bicycling, working out, volunteer commitments and all the fun things I want to do, I have serious doubts about what realistically will get accomplished.  But hey, there’s always next year – right?

  1. Life 2.0 in only 8 business days, huh!? How exciting, and I’m sure a little sad, to be that close to the end of an era… Congratulations! And it sounds like you ARE already getting the hang of things–good thing, since you’re in for a busy “kickoff” of Life 2.0 in June!
